Monique Clark? Who are you?

About me

Hello, I am Monique Clark,

Contemporary artist living in Brighton, UK. Making exuberant, vivid paintings of self portraits, extended family in the domestic space and flora and fauna. Inspiration is sourced from the internet, digital and family photos photo albums. Focussing on mixed media and collage, these paintings offer an insight to a deeply personal world. While also appearing universal these paintings allow Monique to escape the pressures of life and enjoy the making process.

Born in New Zealand, living in the UK since 2002. Monique completed a BA in Arts (2010),completed three years of a part-time BA in Fine art, (2022) Exhibited at the MALL galleries (London) (2022) for the society of woman artists, Liberation Gallery (Brighton,UK) (2023) (2024), Exhibited at Fishing Quarter Gallery (Beyond Boundaries)(2024), Exhibited on the Steyning Art Trail @Mamoarts (2024) Please discover more work on instagram @monclarkfineart.

Currently I’m researching great female artists from the renaissance and rococo periods. Appreciating the feminine aesthetics throughout art history. Looking for connections within the domestic space.

Using luminous colours, creating contrast between lights and dark. Bold brush strokes, and pastel coloured calm. I prefer to work with oil for its viscosity.

In May 2022 I was pre-selected for The London Women's Art Society Mall Galleries exhibition.

In August of the same year I exhibited 2 paintings at the Mall galleries, London.

I entered my idea for a piece of art to Sussex University as they were commissioning original art work for their library.

I was one of twelve artists selected to produce a commission on the theme of 'Reflections'.
